2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont
Oakmont delivered exactly what we hoped for—carnage, controversy, and a stunning comeback. JJ Spaun, who began Sunday by bogeying his first six holes, clawed his way to a miraculous victory at one of the toughest courses in the world. His 64-foot birdie on the 72nd hole sealed the win as the only player under par for the championship.
This marks Spaun’s second career victory and his first top-20 finish in a major.

Dialed In: What’s in JJ Spaun’s Bag?
JJ Spaun’s win wasn’t just historic—it was a mixed bag masterclass. While technically a Srixon staffer, his setup was far from brand-loyal.
Driver: Titleist GT3 (9°) - Fujikura Ventus Black 6x
Fairway Woods: TaylorMade Qi10 3W (15°), 5W (18°) - Mitsubishi Diamana PD
Irons: Srixon ZX5 (4i), ZX7 (5–PW) - True Temper Dynamic Gold X100
Wedges: Cleveland
Cleveland RTX ZipCore (50°)
Cleveland RTZ (54°)
Cleveland RTX6 ZipCore (60°)
True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
Ball: Srixon Z-Star Diamond
Why the Mixed Bag Works:
Playability: ZX5 in long irons for forgiveness, ZX7 for control in scoring irons
Wedge variety: Each wedge offers different spin profiles and bounce setups, giving Spaun precision around Oakmont’s brutal greens
Shaft transitions: Slightly softer wedge shafts (S400 vs. X100) optimize feel without sacrificing control
This setup shows that you don’t need to be tied to one brand, play what fits your game.

Zach’s Chaos Corner
After watching this year’s US Open at Oakmont, it is safe to say we were not the only ones ready to lose our minds. The brutal conditions had even the world’s best beyond frustrated which inspired this week’s Chaos Corner. Let’s be real. Staying calm on the golf course is basically a fantasy. So here is my totally serious anger management system.
The Swear Jar Caddie - Every time you drop a colorful word after a bad shot, your imaginary caddie gets $1. By the back nine, your caddie is planning early retirement in the Caribbean while you are still trying to find your tee shot.
The 5 Second Fake Press Conference - Step away after a disaster shot and hold a pretend press conference. Tough break out there. Wrong club. Wrong wind read. We will bounce back. Gotta trust the process. Bonus points if you answer imaginary reporter questions.
The Emotional Support Snack - Triple bogey? Do not worry. That is why you packed emergency gummy worms. You cannot rage while eating gummy worms. Science.
The Invisible Penalty Box - After a meltdown, you are required to walk 50 yards ahead of your group in total silence. Let them catch up. Let your blood pressure catch down. Everybody wins. Golf is hard. Managing your emotions is harder. But at least your caddie’s fake retirement plan is fully funded.
Caffeine Corner
Would you rather 3-putt every hole inside 10 feet… or have your coffee order be wrong for an entire week?
